Shipping Saunders/LPL issue

I need to ship A Saunders/LPL 670DXL Dichroic Enlarger and want to separate the head from the upright column. If i remove the screw holding the coiled metal strap to the top of the post is there a problem with it uncoiling? Is there a way of securing it for re-attachHas anyone done thisment? Any help would be appreciated, thanks, david

Big problem with recoil/uncoiling.


Raise the head all the way, firmly clamp the spring so it can't move & have at it.
"C" clamp & protect the spring with leather or similar so it doesn't crimp.
