I'm going to be in Salem, Oregon with a free day later this week. I've never been there before. It's not mainly a photography trip but does anyone have any suggestions for specific locations in Salem or very close by that might be interesting for someone who does mostly landscape and architecture? And if I wanted to photograph inside the State capitol, anyone know of any tripod or other restrictions in there?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Brian,

Check out Silver Falls State Park. It's east of Salem but not far if I remember correctly.

Nice hiking trail(s) with several lovely waterfalls. Not sure how much water they have this time of year, but I was there in August a few years ago and there was an impressive flow. Not like here in California where everything dries up in summer.

If you like waterfalls the Waterfall Lover's Guide to the Pacific Northwest is a worthwhile investment.

Was down there last August. Never seen so much marble in all me life. Some nice churches, too.
