I just bought this lens from KEH.com, without front/rear lens caps. I am searching for lens caps for this monster but after googling and reading in this forum, there seems very little information about this lens. Would anyone advise me what lens cap size to get for this lens?:)

check the schneider website for the vintage lens data--should be in there---or the camera eccentric schneider catalogs.....the dimensions are in tables in the brochures--

Look here (https://www.schneideroptics.com/info/vintage_lens_data/large_format_lenses/symmar-s/)

Looks like 110 front and 80 back, same as the newer L version. Johnielvis was right, it's in a cat on the Camera Eccentric site...good luck!

thanks everyone! after reading through links given, I've figured out the front should be 110 and rear is 80. I just get a price quote from SKGrimes; a total of $145!!!

Now i have to look for alternatives (cheaper one of course) Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Look at the B&H web site. They sell Kaiser brand plastic caps in a wide range of sizes, along with Schneider caps if you want to spend more. The SKG caps will be works of art, but as you've discovered, expensive.

Here's a link to Kaiser caps at B&H:

Thank you Steve for the help. The Kaiser caps looks like a very good choice. One more question:
The lens caps listed in B&H for 110mm is temporary out of stock and Kaiser caps only have 100mm or 120mm available. May I get the 120mm Kaiser cap and gaffer taped it to make it fit 110mm lens?

10 mm is 1 cm is almost 1/2" so I don't think so...:)

I bought a set for a similar lens here:

Foto Huppert (http://www.foto-huppert.de/shop/details1.asp?session=1&land=35&lang=de&status=&Code=bwy09&TopCatID=B&CatID=bwy00&SubCat=80,0%20mm)

The 110mm is EUR 18, the 80mm is around EUR 11 plus shipping.

Cheers,
Andreas

Yes with such large sizes required a trip to the grocery store with a ruler might be a good idea. Perhaps a peanut can lid would work well?

Good inspiration here!! I will take out a ruler and go to local supermarket tomorrow. Hope I can find something useful.:p

Keep in mind that you want the lens cap to be fairly rigid. Because it is so big, if the middle flexes it can rub against the glass of the front element which is not good.

At last I found this!!!

http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/250710097963?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_5548wt_905

Is this a good choice as i think it will be more rigid than the push on lens cap?
