Hey all, do any of you know of a small scale printer that does true black and white prints? Or any printer that has a black only option for printing? I think the largest I would like to print would be 13 inches wide.

Check out the Epson Stylus photo R3000.

If what you mean is using only "black" inks, two possibilities come to mind, both accommodating a wide range of Epson printers:

* QTR offers an output profile that uses only the "K" inks

* Jon Cone offers a range of monochrome inksets in different tones

But bear in mind that prints made only with Epson's K inks come out quite warm. If what you want is not "black" inks per se but a subjectively neutral result you need to mix in other colors. You can do that with QTR, too, and no doubt with Epson ABW also.

The Harrington Quadtone RIP uses a little color ink but looks really great, without metarism - you can control warm versus cool perfectly.

Frank, there's a preset profile that comes with QTR that uses K inks only. Also, you can set up custom curve sets that use whichever of the inks you want, and you can restrict that to only the K inks if desired.

One possible solution (http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/UT14.pdf) with
epson 1400 (http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/Product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&sku=C11C655001) ($80 rebate) and
b&w inks (http://www.inksupply.com/ut14_black_and_white.cfm). More info here (http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/). Workforce 1100 also looked interesting.
