I have a Honeywell Pentax 1/21 analog spotmeter (with the light switch to illuminate the screen) that is not working properly. In normal light the needle always jumps immediately to the end of the scale - in dim light when I use the low level switch it also jumps immediately to the end of the scale. Is it shot or is there something I can do to correct? Any suggestions gratefully received.
Try a new battery first of all. I found that I was getting strange readings from both the analogue V and the Digital until I put in some fresh batteries.

Both batteries are new and delivering full voltage according to my meter. Needle jumps to end of scale ar high speed and stays there.

Richard Ritter also specializes in Pentax Spot Meter repairs.
Mine did this from day one. It would then settle down and give accurate readings. I suspect its related to the switch and either of the two repair facilities can fix this if the parts are available.

Richard Ritter. I just had him overhaul my Pentax Spotmeter V that was 22 years old and was just plain worn out - something about 20-30,000 uses.... Good as new.

From you description, you might check to see if you're getting the same readings in low right areas with and without pressing the button. If so, it could be just a simple short of the button.
