Does someone here know something about this lens Leitz Micro Summar 35mm Macro. It is used for macro photography with LF. How does it compare to a luminar? Thanks for your answer. Awsiyâ.

The Leitz Summars are older triplets and not that great. Both the newer Leitz Photar and the Zeiss Luminars are better.

Tom, I appreciate that the better is the enemy of the good.

Even so, are you reporting on Summars from personal experience or from hearsay? And why do you believe the Summars are triplets? I'd always thought that they were imitation Planars. Sorry, 6 element gauss type.

Come to think of it, triplets don't have to be very bad; I have a 45/4.5 Mikrotar that is a triplet and that takes quite good pictures very close up.

Further on those lines, a good Summar might be better than a poor Luminar; I used to have a 100/6.3 Luminar that was just terrible, have used another 100/6.3 that was very good. With used lenses, make and model matter, but condition matters too.

Cheers,

Dan
