Hello..

I am considering a long lens for my Wista field camera. I can focus my 240mm apo-Symmar, but not anything longer than that.
Any suggestions for a telephoto-design for that camera?? Probably around 500 mm, but i am open to suggestions!!:)

Thank you

Tilting the front standard out and/or using a top hat, you might get the 260mm bellows extension needed for a 360mm Nikkor T or, maybe, a bit more for the 400mm Fujinon T. The 300mm Fujinon T would work, without much room for movements, but that is not much of an improvement over the 240.

shortest back focal I've used is tele arton 360.....gives you most bellows to play with in 14"

I got my Nikon 360 to focus on a Zone VI Wista no problem with out fooling with the standards. Not sure how close it would focus though, I only used it as close as about 40ft I think.

If its a west field you should be able to focus a nikon 300m or a fujinon 300c. If you would like a telephoto, I would go for the fujinon 400t.. its one of the lightest telephotos with smallest extension requirements in that focal length.

I used a Fuji 400T on a Tachihara without any problems. The Tachihara only has about an inch more bellows extension than your Wista.

The 360mm Tele-Xenar has the same back focus as a 210mm f/4.5 Xenar. I think the 360mm Tele-Arton has the same.

Be aware that 360mm lenses are pretty heavy and may overwhelm your Wista's front standard. My 360 Tele-Xenar weighs in at 670 grams, almost a pound and a half. The #3 Copal shutter accounts for a lot of that weight. Its chief advantage is its bellows draw, which, as Ole said, is about 210mm at infinity. Good, sharp lens.

Not all 360mm teles are that heavy. I have a 360mm f/7.7 Dallmeyer Dalon Tele-Anastigmat in an dial-set Compur (about #1 size). It's quite light- probably about the same weight as my 180mm Apo-Sironar in a Compur 1. It's not going to overwhelm the front standard of any camera I can think of.

I use Osaka 400/8 on my Tachihara 4x5. With weight of 500g it is of of the lightest tele-lenses you can get for 4x5. Not as sharp as the Fujinon A 240, but still plenty good for 5x enlargements. Still - for the Tachi it is a bit on the heavy side (one needs to be careful during exposure), but it can be done. This lens needs about 240 mm of bellows draw when focused to infinity. I am able to focus down to about 5m, but I would have to check to be sure.
