My philosophical approach to photography, I guess you could say:

Any particular reason for "photographic artist" vs. "photographer"?? I've been thinking that perhaps with the divergence of "fine art photography" from commercial photography, a new term is indeed warranted for the artists.

I have no particular reason. They are the words I chose. I am not in the business of classifying.

...actually that's not entirely true...I realize people will classify me however they see fit. If you want to call yourself an artist, then you should do so...refer to yourself the way you want others to see you, I guess.

...make that...refer to YOUR WORK the way you want others to see IT...(and hope for the best. People will think and say what they want anyway...it's beyond any real control.)

Are you looking for feedback? If so I'd say your strongest work is the camera phone stuff. The palm of the hand image is cool. The nudes look like every other DPReview poster's nudes. :( The western plastic figure guy has already been done a famous art world type, too. I'd also drop the technical end paragraph--who cares?

If you aspire to be an artist and not merely a photographer you should, as you say, act like it.

I do like the hand image.

No, I'm not looking for feedback.

Some people like to read about photography.

Yes, I am familiar with David Levinthal's work.

And by the way...It's NOT camera phone art.

Dear Tom,

If you're going to bother to have a blog, and especially if you're going to promoted it by posting it on a forum like you've done here, you're going to get feedback. Embrace it and learn from it or don't bother making it public. Whatever you do, do not post something looking for exposure and simply be reactive to what people have to say about it.

I sincerely wish you the best and will be following your blog.

Cheers

FWIW you may not want feedback, but by posting on a public forum (and this one in particular) you are going to get it. This is not your blog where you can control discussions.

Wow, Large Format Photography has created such an amazing response: I have had over 400 hits at my blog since I posted a link to it here last night. I always encourage constructive discussion about the art of photography. Thanks to those who have taken the time to spend a moment reading.
