Short on time I hacked a PC cable from an old 22v bulb flash and hooked it to a 3.5mm to plug into a JRx unit so my rodenstock can fire units. Doesnt work at all. Am I missing something here? Tried both polarities, but both cords have just two wires in them, not a lot to muck up.

will it fire the flash when you make contact between the two leads(shutter end) together?

if not, then you might have a bum cable...

the shutter just completes a circuit

The wire in a PC cord is a pain to solder and have it conduct. Don't know why but I haven't had much luck.
Do you have available a PC to household cord? Then you could replace the cord in the popper with a male connector .
I've no idea why that would work any better but couldn't work any worse.
