Hello all!

New 4x5 user, have shot MF/35mm for awhile now, thought I'd try something new.

Coming into possession of a Calumet CC-400 to get me started, have also grabbed some sheets of my favourite emulsions.

Tank develop my film usually so doing sheets shall be interesting.

Still deciding what glass to get, have most other things ready to go.

Look forward to being part of this community!

Cheers,
Zach

Welcome Zach,

on the homepage is a list with some of the common modern lenses,
here the list for 4x5:
http://www.largeformatphotography.info/lenses/LF4x5in.html

The column '4x5 in. Equiv. to 35' means what the equivalent of this focal length
is to a lens for 35mm format.
The differences between Rodenstock, Schneider, Fuji and Nikon are not very big.
I'd get one for a reasonable price so when you don't like it you can sell it without loss.

There are tons of lenses not mentioned in that list, antique lenses,
process lenses, enlarger lenses and so on, though not every glass is for every application.

It all depends on what you want to photograph with 4x5.

Thanks Andi!

Have had my eye on a 210/5.6 Rodenstock Sironar locally (Australia) on the bay so I'll see how that goes, like the standard FOV & focal length on 35mm/MF.

Welcome to the forum Zach. Lots of very useful info here. You'll probably find that you will want to buy your film from the States as it is so much cheaper than here. Some of us pool together to get film and paper so that we all get the discount and don't pay so much in postage. Just let the other OZ members know when you need to get stuff.

Hey Michael, yeah just digesting through it all now! Usually grab my film from Freestyle/B&H/Adorama but I'll definitively be in for a group buy.

Cheers.

Hello Zach,

You are not that far from me ... we might be able to gang up on photo buys !

I wonder how many are in Brisbane ...

Nice to hear your enthusiasm.

Hey Steve!

Yeah I'd be up for that! Have seen maybe one or two LF shooters on Brisbane Photography forum but apart from that I'm not aware of anyone else (sure there's lots more hiding somewhere)

Cheers,
Zach
