Hi,

I am a very very new to Large Format Photography and was looking for a Workshop on Large Format Photography and Basic workshop on handling large format camera around Washington DC. Could any one please point me in correct direction. I did buy a Crown graphics camera online and would like to start learning large format photography using it.

Thanks for all of you who contributed valuable information here.

Thanks
Sivaram

You could start by reading a few introductory books on the subject; that way you'll at least be familiar with most of the jargon, terms and techniques when it comes time to attend workshops.
Using The View Camera by Steve Simmons is a good start, as is this page:

No problem, Sivaram; I wish I could suggest a workshop.
You could also post something in the Lounge section (Groups & Meetings), and see if there are any other LFers in the DC area.

There are some active LFers here that live in the DC area. Also post your question on APUG.org because there are a number of DC area LFers at that website.

I do not know of any workshops, but if you find a group that want to go to a particular location, like Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, or Harper's Ferry, I would be interested in joining in and learning from others.

In SW New Hampshire;

They have a workshop starting tomorrow (drop everything and come on up). I have attended one of these workshops, and it would be very worthwhile for a beginner.

I live in Richmond, VA and regularly travel to VT/NH to attend a Fine Focus workshop. Bruce and Richard hold an intro to LF workshop that is highly recommended. Check them out.

Tillman Crane sometimes conducts LF workshops at the Peters Valley Crafts Center in New Jersey (www.pvcrafts.org). The one I took from him wasn't for beginners but he does occasionally teach beginner workshops. He also sometimes teaches at places other than Peters Valley, you might check his web site to see what he's up to these days.

Steve Simmons used to teach beginner LF workshops at the Sante Fe Photography and Digital Imaging Center. I took that one too. I didn't think it was very useful but others perhaps liked it.
