I just acquired (as a bonus of sorts with a Crown Graphic) two unopened 4x5 Tri-X Film Packs (expired in the 1980s) and an unopened package of type 52 Polaroid film, expired in the early 90s. I have no idea how any of it was stored but I doubt it was well cared for. It so happens I have a 545 holder. Any suggestions on using this stuff? The film packs aren't a big deal - I'll put one into an adapter (I already had a couple and got two more with the Crown), stick it in my Speed and give it a try. Should I expose it at ISO400 or something else? As for the type 52, I don't even know where to start. I don't want to open the package until I know what to do with it. Does it load one sheet at a time? Is it in a film pack of sorts? Do I still expose as ISO 400?

Thanks,
Dan

I just finished a 25 sheet box of Tri-X pan 4x5. Expired 05/1985 unknown storage.

Expect B+F 0.33
EI 100 (0.1 speed point at CI 0.62 - treat 100 as box speed).
(13 minutes 68-degrees D-76 1:1 tray. For comparison this is the same time I develop TMY-2 to ISO rated speed)

Type 52 is a peel-apart ISO 400 film that makes a b/w instant print. One sheet at a time in a Polaroid 545 film holder. You may or may not get anything from it; most likely the chemicals in the pods have dried up after 20 years. Worth a try if you can find a free 545; since Polaroid is gone they are essentially scrap.
