Does anyone knows how good it is.? Is it as good as Heliar?
I am trying to buy a classic lens for graflex crown graphic.
Thankshttp://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt268/holms1975/th_17425_33_a.jpg

It is no Heliar, nor a Heliar imitation. It is a Tessar type design, equivalent to a contemporary f/4.5 Tessar - nice lenses and not that much worse than a Heliar, but common as dirt and hence more affordable.

By the looks yours seems to be uncoated and probably older, but that is hard to tell on a thumbnail.

Thank you is it a good all around lens?
I have found it for $250 mint. Is it a good price?

That would be rather on the expensive side, unless the shutter is in excellent shape. Barrel mount Xenars and Tessars tend to go for well below 100€ this side of the pond, due to their ubiquitous nature - it depends on the shutter whether that adds $150+ to the value.

Yep, seems a bit pricey. If everything is pristine, maybe, but only if you want a vintage lens. You can buy modern, latest vintage 210mm plasmats for the same price.

Cheers, Steve

I just picked up a c. 1960 Xenar 180/4.5 in ring-style Compur 2 from Keh for $190. The speeds are reasonably accurate and the lens is in great shape. That version of the Compur shutter was made up to 1931 according to http://www.largeformatphotography.info/shutters.html, so yours is a much older lens. $250 seems a bit high, even if it is mint.
