Stopped in at my local goodwill today. Bought new 3.5 reading glasses for groundglass and negative viewing. (I don't wear glasses otherwise).

Also found a relatively cheap way to protect my 8x10 film holders (in style) while out and about.

For <$4 I bought a brand new Soren Laptop Sleeve which appears to smooth silky nylon on the inside and neoprene on the outside.

It holds comfortably two 8x10 film holders bagged.

Good buys!

Adorable kids! But why bags within bags---is Maine that dusty?

I recommend & use new surplus GI 5 gallon watercan coolers for heat, storm and dust defense. These zipper closed---the zipper is under a canvas storm flap with a wooden bottom and a shoulder strap. One cooler carries 12 bagged 8x10 holders IIRC, and goes for about $17 USD at the local shops.

I recognize these bags. They were sold locally in NYC at the Container Store (http://www.containerstore.com/welcome.htm) last year. I considered the 4x5 size.

I'm a little bit retentive about dust on film. I'd rather prevent it than make excuses about it on prints or spend time cloning/healing it out on the computer.

The antistatic bags simply protect the film and holder from dust. They offer no padding or handling/minor impact protection. Likewise, some bags protect from handling/minor impact well, but offer no protection from dust, or contribute to dust particles.

Maine's not exactly arid desert, but we can get a lot of dust certain times of the year; pollen dust in June is very serious; sometimes big yellow cakes of it can be seen floating in the water. In the winter, people with woodstoves make lots of dust indoors from that fuel source and the lack of fresh clean air. In the spring and early summer, our roads that are sanded and salted all winter blow urban sandstorms in spring wind.

That print reminds me of 60's mod bell bottoms !! Nice score from the palace of style known as Goodwill. I hide all my gear in stuff that I got from GW. Glad to know there are others like me in the universe.

Did the film holder cases come with the carriers or were they optional?
