Hello all.

My wife and I we possibly let's travel to London the first week in October. It's a pleasure travel, so we'll have three days of spare time.

For sure, we'll go to the British to see the egyptian art, but I'd like to take advice about some photography exhibitions, maybe beautiful events -I'm thinking in popular events as Notting Hill market and the like- and some non-tourist but for any reason interesting places.

My main idea is travel with my 35mm Nikon, my Nikkors 2/24mm and 2/85mm, a couple of HP5+ to shot at ISO400 and to buy there 3,4,5... 35mm rolls more in the photography shop you recommend me. Yes: I must confess this is the excuse to go at lest once but no more to a photo shop.

Thanks!

For film, paper and developing materials, Silverprint (http://www.silverprint.co.uk/) is very good. It's a short walk from Waterloo station.

Time Out (http://www.timeout.com/london/) will list most of the main exhibitions and events that will be running when you're there.

Most places in London are over-saturated with tourists, particularly the big museums and galleries, and it's often difficult to actually enjoy being there. The same applies to well-known areas like Covent Garden, Notting Hill or Camden Market, for example. There are some less well-known markets - eg Exmouth Market (http://www.exmouth-market.com/) in Clerkenwell, or Leadenhall_Market (http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/LGNL_Services/Business/Markets/Leadenhall_Market/) in the City, which are not wholly made up of cloned high street stores or chain restaurants, but they're a bit out of the way and in less 'nice' areas.

For your film needs Silverprint is a must. Chemicals, paper etc. Check their website. Have a good week.

Not sure I would describe Exmouth market as less nice, and it has a very good Spanish restaurant called Moro, process supplies the professional film suppliers shop is a short walk away.

I would go to the British museum and whilst there check out Aperture camera shop just around the corner.

Tate Modern is also worth going to via the pedestrian bridge over the Thames

Camden town market is interesting and is extremely popular with Spanish visitors

Silverprint has all the film and chemicals you will need but is a little off the tourist track, if you are interested in large format then a trip to teamwork is worthwhile. it is north of oxford street which is an interesting area of town , as is soho which is not as seedy as its reputation suggests

Just to throw in some ideas - an evening concert at the church of St Martins-in-the-Fields on the corner of Strand and Trafalgar Square; walk the South Bank Walk linking Waterloo (and the London Eye) to Tower Bridge; take the ferry to Canary Wharf; Highgate cemetery; and a bit further out, Richmond riverside and boat trip to Hampton Court. How many weeks did you say you were coming for!

Just as a heads-up: Tate Modern will dedicate Turbine Hall to Tacita Dean starting in October.
