I have a Kardan 'Standard' and was wondering if anyone knows whether the center rail is common with other Kardan models?

Thanks!

According to the Linhof Camera Story, 2nd ed., 2000, the Standard 9x12cm/4x5 was manufactured from 1974 to 1982, the 13x18cm/5x7 and the 18x24cm/8x10 were made from 1976 to 1979.

The Kardan Super Color ST, 9x12cm/4x5 succeeded the Kardan Standard and was manuractured from 1981 to 1985. This evolved into the Kardan E, first introduced at Photokina in 1990.

Photos of all of these camera show a similar grooved rail although the nonfunctional cosmetics differ. The Kardan GT 9x12cm/4x5 appears to have a similar rail (it is difficult to tell from the photo) but the Kardan GT in other formats is different.

I hope this is the information that you were looking for.

Thanks for that, Al. It was very informative when all I had access to were auction site photos. My Standard is a 8x10 one and I've seen similar looking rails in photos of other models. I have a good feeling that they're the same but just wanted to make sure.

So from what you say, it seems the only the Standard 8x10 has this particular rail. Which is not very good news for me.

Thanks again...

Technically yes. It can use the cureent rail from the re or the telescopic rail from the GT.

If you need a ned rail you can order the re rail from Linhof service. They may even have the rail used on the ST left. In the USA the number for service is 252 652-4401. They also will have track segments if you somehow broke a tooth.

Sorry I just saw your reply, Bob. Thank you very much for the pointers.

I'm looking for a compatible 8x10 rear standard... so far no luck :(

Doubt you will find a used one. You can always look for something like the 810 Kardan Standard. It is compatible with your camera and quite a few were sold.
