The recent debates about Adams' influence brought something to mind that didn't really fit in any other discussions, but I thought it was a fun thing to know...

At his recent talk at the Center for Creative Photography, John Sexton mentioned that even very late in his life, Ansel still had his old soft focus lens, (presumeably the Spencer Port-Land). And when he packed for photographic trips, he still took it along, "just in case..."

Who would have suspected?

Ha, if he were still here, we'd win him over in a heartbeat :D:D

I first met Ansel in late 57 or early 58 and have seen lots of his photos as well as having heard him play piano before his arthritis pretty much stopped that. He did great non-traditional portraits, terrific architecturals, soft focus lanndscapes, commercial photography, and lots of color. However, he knew what would sell, and basically that was b/w photography in the mountains.

Nothing romantic about being a starving artist.
