Got a big honkin' tripod with a Sinar pan-tilt head on top, photo below. Getting a 2D mounted on top is less than quick and difficult, e.g., almost drop the camera a couple times trying to hit the camera mounting hole with the thumbscrew on the head. I am thinking a quick release plate mounting system is the solution, but I'm open to other ideas.

What is your recommendation?

Thanks,

Jay

Jay,

Have you tried flopping the Sinar head 90 degrees when you mount the camera? You should be able to see both the mount screw and the mount hole from that position.

I have an agfa- ansco that is prob every bit as bulky as your kodak. I use it with the bogen/manfrotto hexagonal plates on a 3047 head with no problems. You can also get the same quick-release plate and mechanism as an add-on. There are probably sturdier ones out there as well.

A 2D is the original quick release plate. Its called a sliding block.
