Fascinating stuff; thanks for taking the time to make the videos. I have young kids and the missus is a bit of a chemo-phobe, so I've restricted myself to Xtol in recent years. I look forward to experimenting with Pyro in the future.

Oh, I didn't make these. I just came across them. Don't you just love this guy's delivery??

:p

Yes, very curmudgeonly. Any idea who the narrator is?

I don't know when these videos were made, but they're quite outdated, and much of the information presented is not accurate. There are a lot of good reasons ABC Pyro isn't widely used.

I agree with Jay. There are many modern staining and tanning developers around that will give better results in terms of grain size and acutance than ABC Pyro. The modern developers are also more consistent in general use. For 8X10 and over ABC Pyro will give excellent results if used with care, but for formats of 5X7 and smaller there are better solutions, IMHO.

Jay, are you saying the facts about ABC Pyro were accurate then but are inaccurate now?

I'm saying the comparison to other pyro developers is outdated, and some information presented as fact is inaccurate.

I agree. Pyro wasn't not specifically just a result of the Japanese gall nut, so the contention that is why it is or was expensive is wrong. I had at one point an interesting conversation with Gordon H regarding contrast controls using his basic PMK formula.
