O.K. so I picked up another Century studio camera. This one is 10a/1a w/ a very useful #2 sliding carriage. This has a dual spring backs w/ a built in dark slide.
This way you can focus on one 8x10 back while having the other loaded w/ a holder (w/ dark slide pulled) After achieving focus you slide the other spring back in place w/ holder (dark slide pulled). Then slide the built in dark slide to the other side & shoot.
It doesn't sound faster but I would say it makes the 1st shot twice as fast as the traditional one spring back Carriage.
Anyways, I thought this was interesting. So here's a few photos of the #2 sliding carriage.
