Stonehenge Paper for Platinum print.

Just so to let you know! For Platinum Printers especially . I have used the paper called Stonehenge from Blick Art. The paper is pretty thick 90 gsm, easy to coat even my lab humidity at low as 35 with no humidifier required
The paper yield a very nice soft look, nice D max and certainly difference from any other paper that I have used including Weston, Crane or Arche Platine.
It come in several shades but my favorite are Warm White and Natural. Size 22x30 for less $2/ sheet. For more details please follow this link:

Thanks, Tri...yes, Stonehenge is a great low-cost paper for pt/pd printing. About a month ago, I made some small prints on it after acidifying it along with some other paper. Since then, I've been told that acidification isn't necessary, so I'm looking forward to trying it again in situ as it were.

Hi Paul,
I dedicated this paper for most of my portrait print. It has a great softness look , texture and a great combination with the soft lens was used here. For better yet this paper is made in USA .

That's a very nice print Paul. Plenty of Dmax and I can see the highlight is creamy smooth. This pape is great isn't it? 1/4 of the price of the Arche Platine and it's basically the same paper. A true Champagne taste with a Beer budget! I'm so sold.
BTW: The paper doesn't need to presoak either, straight to coat from the oven.

No presoak whatsoever, the paper is ready to coat right of the bat. It's absorbed the chemical nicely.

Works great for other iron-based printing processes. I use it for Kallitypes and the occasional van Dyke.

A very nice paper I agree, especially for the price! It has a very slight texture which i like. In my conditions I do have to pre treat the paper with ox acid or I cannot completely clear the unexposed borders, I'm jealous of you guys that don't have to pre acidify. Good wet strength also. In my experience it does suck up the chemicals compared to other papers like platine while coating, but that could by my 15-25% humidity conditions? For the price it is very nice IMO.

When was this Stonehenge manufactured, any by whom?

Stonehenge originated at the Rising Paper Company in Housatonic, MA. Rising was one of a relatively small number of mills in Western Massachusetts that made only cotton-based paper, and it had a great reputation both for quality and for being reasonably priced.

Unfortunately, Rising Paper was acquired by Neenah Papers a few years ago, and because the Housatonic mill was the smallest in its fleet, and because Neenah was mainly into commercial papers rather than art papers, Neenah decided to close the mill and sell off the brand. Legion Papers purchased the Stonehenge brand and formula, but Legion is a distributor, not a manufacturer. They advertise that Stonehenge continues to be manufactured in the US, but I have been unable to find where or by whom. I have a suspicion that it is being produced on a contract basis which means that the actual manufacturing site can vary from one year to the next. That could have an impact on quality.

Incidentally, one of the other all-cotton paper companies in Western Massachusetts in Cranes. Their mill in Dalton, MA is also known as 'the money mill'; the tall fence that surrounds the mill is topped by concertina wire, and all of the product is shipped in tractor trailers that leave the mill with a police escort. Their product is use to make US currency.
