8x10 for Glass plate collodion process, Is there some sort of blueprints or plans, one can use to build a 8x10 camera. I picture a wooden field camera, not a mono rail. I dont care how big or heavy. I got a lens for an 8x10 the markings say Betax no4 and Turner Reich f7 8x10. This lens is OLD, but functions, has a shutter release.. Was looking to find a lens that I just remove the lens cap for exposure, but the Betax will have to do.

I know the bellows will be the major cost.. I hope there is a hardware kit from a plans build project. If not I will be copying from images. Thanks, in advance, AKf

For the cost of bellows you can get a used camera that does what you want.

You may want to check these PDF instruction sheets for building wet plate camera. I believe it calls for basic tools for the most part.

check it out. Hey it's free.

I'll second the Jon Grepstad recommendation, though I made some modifications to his design (and would make further mods / undo some of mine if I made another)

I believe the book has plans for a conversion back, though it has been a while since I've looked at it.

I've thought of wetplate myself, and decided I would likely get a beater 2Doid or studio camera and modify it where neccesary. Sliding boxes will work, too.

I also made an 8x10 out of foam core, used a rack n' pinion lens on it...

Cheap cheap cheap! (and fast to make!)

Am I mising something?

I thought that all one deeded was the proper back portion for a view camera that would take the wet-plate holders and have the GG in same focal plane as the plates. Why NOT make a replacement back for a 2-D, or any other wooden camera?
