I have lost my instructions for Dixactol. I want to try it on 8x10, HP5 for cont act printing. Could anyone provide me with basic instructions, such as dilutions , starting times/temps, stop/water bath. Many thanks

Bruce,

I can also fax the instructions, but here are the basics for the single bath method:

70 deg. F pre soak 1ml of concentrate a with 300 ml water Just before pouring this into the tank (or tray), add 7ml of concentate B.The solution will begin to change color. Pour into tank. Agitate continuously for the first 30 seconds, then at 30 second intervals. Pour off the developer, but save it for the afterbath. Rinse with distilled water, fix for 3- 4 minutes, breifly rinse and pour in the used developer for two minutes with agitations each 30 seconds. Rinse and let dry. His development time is about 8 minutes if you plan to print on graded paper and about 10 minutes if using vc paper. For high brightness subjects, reduce time by 20%, for low, increase by 25%. For edge effect sharpness you can agitate one each 2 minutes.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Greg Rust

Is this available pre-packaged in US? How does it compare with Xtil? TIA

The full instructions are available on Barry Thornton's web site at http://website.lineone.net/~barry-thornton/dixactol.htm. Dixactol is available through Photographer Formulary (also on the web).

Try here (http://www.qa63.dial.pipex.com/frame2.htm) and here (http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl? msg_id=003o0c). The web page is more informative than the sheet that comes with the bottles.
