Hi all,

I need some clips to hold the ground glass on the frame. I know I can order these but I'm wondering if there is any quick simple replacement I can go pick up at the hardware store or at a jewelry supply store. Any help would be appreciated.

I think I know every thing in the small parts hardware dept of any ACE Hardware.
I have not seen anything I'd trust. It's not a factor of retaining the glass it's breaking the glass. But try a rubber bumper. Knotch the back side so there is a small step that rests on the glass and frame. I have lots of real GG retaining springs.

Yea, I went walking through ACE the other day and didn't see anything I'd use.

There's always the guy on ebay with all the Deardorff spare parts.

Ken, do you have 4 retaining springs you'd be willing to send me? If so how much would you charge for them? I'll just go the cheaper route between you and the guy on ebay. Let me know.

Tansu screen corners from Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/US/hardware/page.aspx?p=48668&cat=3,49938). I've used B and C. Still have to order them, though...

yea... maybe for the most temporary of situations. I wouldn't feel right trusting any tape with 11x14 glass for in any situation where I'm actually using the camera though.

Scott, those screen corners look like a fantastic solution, and attractive as well. I wonder if I can pick something similar up at a local hardware store like Home Depot or ACE (I wasn't looking out for these so I might take a trip back now).

That's fair enough Francesco - wouldn't use tape at 11x14 either!. I only use tape on 5x4 because I couldn't source bog-standard clips cheap enough, and then moved up to 5x7.

Yea, there's tape on it now (how it was shipped) and holding it upright is terrifying. Thats why Im eager to get some clips on it. I will admit, I've held glass on 4x5 with tape and it was no problem but with the massive size difference I wouldn't do it with anything larger then 5x7.

Try getting a flat piece of metal or a wood slat, and attach foam/rubber/felt to the underside to allow a firm but cushioned grip.

Maybe that would allow enough pressure to hold the glass without it coming off or cracking.

Hot melt glue while you are making some.

Drill a hole that overlaps a little into the glass opening and use a screw and a washer.

See the 4x5 Chamonix camera back.

More expensive than buying something from Ace Hardware, but it looks good, ships fast, and these folks are easy to deal with.

Barry (attrevida) is a friend of mine at this point. He's supplied me with a lot of stuff to date and is a great guy to deal with. I actually had 1 package from him delivered yesterday and am expecting another soon. Ken was just a little more cost effective for me for this. Every little bit counts when you're poor and love big cameras!
