Camera (nikon) set to VIVID, negative placed so that light shines on it just right from behind:

Photoshop Elements:
Lighten Shadow about 7 percent
Midtone Contrast about +75 Percent
Raise left (Dark) slider on levels to taste
Decrease saturation to taste
