If anyone is still using one of the old cold light heads that uses a standard 12 inch Circline bulb and wishes they had more light, there might be hope. My friend Eric Biggerstaff and I just overhauled the head on his Omega E to use one of the new 55 watt thin Circlines. We had to replace the ballast with a new electronic ballast and the connector with one made for the thin Circlines. Eric is reporting nearly instant on to full output. Because of the various spectra outputs available with the new bulbs we were able to get one that did away with the yellow filter that had previously been necessary. That, and the fact that these suckers are really bright added up to better than 2 stops more output for around $75 total.
