I shoot color film and need an affordable lens or two in the135-210mm range. I have seen quite nice color pictures taken with convertable Symmars on the net, but there is no way of knowing how the originals really look like.

Are the old convertable Symmars uncoated or single coated? And what is your experience of their color rendition?

Convertible Symmars are single-coated. Color rendition is very good (they are Symmars and plasmat designs).

The issue with single-coating is not color rendition but flare control. The convertible Symmars I have used in the past had greater flare problems than I liked, and I have got rid of them. Plus, they are often not all that sharp using just the one lens cell.

Best,

Thanks for the information! Flare is a nuisance, better to have a look at multicoated Symmars I guess.
