He is saying that both the SA and convt. Symmar were recommended by AA in the early 70's.
Sounds OK to me - may be a question of price rather than best available.

You'd think that with human mortality being what it is, the number of people who knew Ansel Adams would decline as time goes on. But somehow his acquaintances have turned the actuarial tables around because as the years after his death increase so the number of people who knew him also increases.

Although, if you were 25 years-old and had known him 20 years before his death, you would be 72 years-old today. Not an altogether unlikely possibility. Add to that, Ansel's accessibility and self-promotion; the man was not a hermit!
