tripod head and shift question

Just got my fotoman dmax camera, the camera has a place to attach the plate for a tripod but because of the level you cant shift downward all the way with that plate on. the head I have is

the dmax will shift upward ok but the level catches the shift downward at about 10mm.

so I guess a head with a very small plate not sure..

looks like a spacer would work or somehow stacking the manfrotto quick release plates
