I'm looking on Photographer's Formulary at sepia toners. Can someone describe the difference between a hypo-alum sepia toner and sulfide sepia toners? I've read the descriptions on the website but I am interested in knowing if one is preferable to the other in any circumstances and why. Thank you.
They give quite different colours to the tones, the Hypo-alum toners much more Purple, the Sulphide tones are a more chocolate brown. However the type of paper plays a big part as well.
It really depends what changes your after, the sulphide toners are the more typical Sepia toners.
