Since listings are ephemeral, it was an 1800/16 Apo Ronar CL. $8,105. Per Rodenstock it covers 40 degrees, 1,315 mm at infinity. MTF at coverage's limit at 8 and 16 lp/mm is as near zero as makes no difference, at 4 lp/mm is 30%. The MTF curves are pretty flat out to 14 degrees from the center, (920 mm circle) fall from there. Just what you want for 30" x 40".

I wonder who the two madmen were and how they intended to use the monster.

Wonder no longer - someone out there wants to make his own camera with a 1800mm lens and this wide coverage. Mad of him? Go wonder...
