No, I am holding out for when I can post my XPan 24x68's. I don't see why they should not be allowed. After all, 24 is bigger than 6 and 68 is way bigger than 17 and the aspect ratios are exactly the same.:rolleyes:

Last image is the Bayonne Bridge, Bayonne NJ... about a mile (as the crow flies) up the Kill Van Kull from the terminal where I work.

Quite a bit of talk about either: 1) tearing it down and digging a tunnel for Route 440 or 2) raising it.

Either way (in my humble opinion) will likely be a disaster.

All so the super size cargo ships (soon to be coming through the enlarged Panama Canal) will be able to get into Newark Bay.

Here's another... a couple old geezers getting some R&R at my uncle's hunting cabin in the north Maine wilderness, ca. 1994. Fuji G617, Kodachrome-64, f8 @ 15-sec.

Not my best work but one of the few indoor shots I've ever done.

Jan: You may be right. I belong to a professional site on yahoo-groups and I tend to see a lot of arguing there too.

Yes it was quite a nice place to visit. Unfortunately both my uncle and the cabin are now gone. But over the course of my life I spent about a year's time there as a "base-camp" for hiking, fishing, and photography.

Doing justice to the scenery there was the reason for purchasing my MF 617 in the first place.

Hard for me to see it in black and white. I don't have any 6x17s of FL yet but some 6x9 of sunsets in E100G are spectaculars. I almost booked a couple of weeks for NocheBuena/Christmas in FL but I decided to cancel at the end. Glad I did with the snow in New England. My family in Miami complains of being "too cold" this winter. :p

Thanks. Yes it is a favorite spot and I've done photos there several times. But not in many years. I never had much luck with CS-120 but that one did come out nice.

There is a little parking area there at the overlook and I've stopped there several times for sunrise/sunset photos. But I never seemed to have the right camera.

Since then I bought more LF equipment including quite a number of long lenses and two Sinar 6x12-cm panorama backs. So I do plan to do the scene again sometime when I get back there. The spot is about 15- miles east of where my uncles wilderness cabin used to be so it was easily accessible over the years. Not so any more now that both he and the cabin are gone.

But like Arnold said, "I'll be back!"

Another done there at sunrise... also done with the Fuji G617 and cropped a bit at the bottom. I don't recall what film. My notes are at home.

Bob, you're absolutely right. I don't normally shoot sunsets and the colors really can change dramatically from minute to minute. I also preferred the later shot which had the hint of blue/purple...

I don't mind it (the VC revision), but it certianly doesn't have the punchy colour of Velvia, and being a C41 is a bitch to scan.

Well, that's a recent image made while a huge fire destroyed part of the "Cidade do Samba" (Samba City), here in Rio de Janeiro.
Sadly, those dramatic events usually render some beautiful images. But no one was hurt, just a lot of carnival fantasies and alegories, so my conscience wasn't hurt either.

We get only 4 pictures with 120 and most cameras won't work with 220 films, since frame counting depends on the small red window in the camera back. Maybe Linhofs and Gild can do the trick, but none of the chinese new arrivals.

I use an Epson 4990 scanner with a homemade film holder.

The plastic film-holders that came with the unit work reasonably well but only fit up to 6x12-cm.

This one scanned full frame with the homemade holder and cropped to 6x12 with the Epson holder.

I have not used my Shen Hao 617 for 1-2 years as I was learning to use my 4x5 well to do my photo project. Today I loaded up some Reala 100 and took the 617 and a few lens for some California coastal views. I miss using the camera. It's so much fun.

I also think I finally "understand" color negative film scanning now. The key is that there's a huge dynamic range compared to slides. Once I really grok that, I think I can make it work. I will probably continue to use Provia 4x5 for my cosplay photo project though. Don't want to introduce new variables now...

I normally avoid the "stick the main subject in center" panoramic images, but this one calls for it, IMHO:

I did something kind of silly yesterday - I setup my Shen-Hao 617 with a 72mm XL at hyperfocal (I thought...), and put a flash bracket on the camera and shot it handheld (with a 12mm viewfinder from my CV 12mm LTM lens to estimate framing) at the university Homecoming football game.

Sometime while walking to the game from my house I must've knocked the focus because it was way out from what I had set, even at f/22. So everything is pretty soft. But it was a cool idea anyway. I also underexposed a bit. I did an incident reading and it seemed under compared to Sunny 16 but I trusted it. Not sure why it was so far off.

I should probably stick to my 35mm panoramas in 6x12 back for handheld stuff. Anyway, here's a couple shots:

The way I understand it is that photos from 8x10 source can go to the normal Image Sharing threads. This is for those bastardized not-really-LF-according-to-LFF 6x17 images.

I like both in a way, the contrast on the B&W is intense but interesting, the color, I like the green moss area but it makes the background appear dull.

So do you own two backs? Or did you kill both rolls to get to the next roll? Or happened to be on the last one? That's what, 4 exposures per roll?

I thought I shared these but I guess I didn't. I'm not sure if this is exclusive to 6x17 roll film backs or not, but I'm on my phone, so I can't tell if I'm in the LF section or the "everything else" section. Let me know if this is frowned upon since I don't own a 6x17 roll film back.

Right, a low key place and no problem with using a tripod. With all of the 5x7 stuff to tote around, I've taken to splitting all the gear between two shoulder bags rather than one big backpack with everything in it. It just seems easier to carry the stuff longer distances that way, especially since the Canham MQC in it's own case is very toteable.

I noticed there is a slight reddish cast in the water that I don't know if it is due to reflection or conversion from negative scan. I don't think it takes anything away from the image but my personal choice would have been to remove it.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had the image lab developed in Vienna. It was a tricky scan and I didn't notice that part. I'll muck around with it and see if it's worth removing. I find home developed tends to be easier to scan

I think a little front tilt. It was raining pretty hard at the moment, and I was ridiculously jet lagged, so I was close to stopping down the lens even more if it weren't for reciprocity. The lens natural has some peripheral distortion, but still a lovely lens imo.

I wasn't going to mention the distortion because I didn't want my intentions to be misunderstood. I noticed some distortion on the far left and was just wondering if the lens was pushed to it's limits on that side.

I't a wonderful image and the little bit of distortion doesn't hurt it at all.

Three 6x17 images from today. I wandered around south GA but found my way back to a state park I've been to, but explored an area I hadn't really traversed much. It started pouring rain when I got there so I covered my Shen-Hao up with my darkcloth and just wandered around getting drenched for about 30 minutes, and then took these:

Go to the image in Flickr. At the bottom, RH side of the image are 4 icons. Select the one with the sweeping arrow pointing to the right (mouse over and it says "share Photo") and click on it. Your screen will fade white and a dialog box will popup with options. Select the BBCode option from the 4 given (will have a blue underline when you do) , the size from a drop-down widget and a highlighted BBCode link will appear that you can right-click and select copy ( if not highlighted you will have to highlight it and then copy). Come here and paste that into the reply on the forum.

This forum, like others, use BBCode instead of HTML for a markup and links. If the instructions are confusing, ask again and we can take it from there with some screen shots or something.

Thank you guys. I have to admit, that negative film was -don´t know how to say- a bit scary for me, because I never knew what colour it would give and I had problems with blocked up shadows, cyan skyes, magenta shadows and so on. With my new conversion method Iall these problems are blown away. I like slide film a bit more but for these difficult lighting situations the negative film gives spectacular results. I like it more and more. Here another shot on Ektar 100:

I've been really enjoying all the images posted recently here.

I took my Shen-Hao 617 to Mississippi this past weekend and shot several rolls. Here's a Lik-esque (minus the color) scene from the beach with some roiling waves, taken with my Nikkor 90mm f/8 on Plus-X:

Thanks OnF, and Drew. I had to wait for over 30 minutes for the sun to peak out and give a glimmer of light. It was raining lightly so I put my lens cap on, and so the first time the sun came out I of course shot a wonderful image of my lens cap, and then the sun was gone for awhile again. It was coming out for only 1-2 seconds at a time, through holes in the cloud cover.

Out of curiosity, are you enlarging your 6x17 work? I don't have a large enough enlarger, but I'm working on it. I have all the parts to build an 8x10 enlarger, just don't have time, and I'm moving next year and might have to give up on it for now as I can't bring the large 5x7 enlarger carcass I was planning on using. May even have to dump my 4x5 darkroom stuff temporarily.

I mostly photograph with 4x5 and 617, and there aren't many "magic lens". Oh sure you have 150 APO Sironar S or the Super Symmar XL, or the Gold Dagor, but in the end, one stands alone (*) :-) - the Cooke PS945, which recreates the look of the legendary Pinkham and Smith Visual Quality IV lens. Most of my 4x5 portraits are taken with the lens.

I checked that the image circle should cover 617, and indeed it does. There is hardly any light by the time I set up the camera, so this is about F5, but the bokeh is oh so smooth.

Only 4x5 at the moment. My main B&W is 7x17", so I generally scan 6x17cm colour.

We write it quite often: however, this image in person and large is SO much nicer than on a computer screen... To me, there is even more atmosphere.
