I really like the water reflecting the blue sky. Side lighting looks like twilight. A very nice image and would make a nice print.

Your 'A Walk In The Park' is excellent, strong composition, and great capturing of the light and shadow of the trees.
Do you remember the exposure index and development time? - I've sometimes have mixed results with Pan F Plus and even managed to make negatives that were too low in contrast @ EI 25 (using a spot meter)

That's a very good photo, Tuco.
Your 'A Walk In The Park' is excellent, strong composition, and great capturing of the light and shadow of the trees.
Thanks. I round off all my exposures typically to the nearest whole stop. So I'm not precise about the exposure index but I meter for EI 25 in rodinal at a box development time of 11 minutes.
That's a very good photo, Tuco.
Thanks Peter.

Nice! I always wanted to do this but never had the time when I was either performing, recording, or stage managing with the various symphony orchestras I used to work with.
Nice! I always wanted to do this but never had the time when I was either performing, recording, or stage managing with the various symphony orchestras I used to work with.
I had to start the shot before we started to tune and then stop it when we called for our break.
I like that you can't really make out the conductor because he moves around enough that he never really burns into the image.
I'm digging that shot too, vphill. I'm wanting a longer focal length for my 617. I find interesting is that extra 40 seconds on the exposure. :) I'm mean at 42 minutes, +/- 5 minutes is pretty insignificant.

I mean if we are going to document then let's do it :) (but I hear ya)
Looking at my exposure notes for the series of four shots (two rehearsals) I have: 1h 25m (13s), 53m 22s, 1h 46m 36s, and the final 42m 40s all for the most part have a similar exposure on the FP4.

Funny, the bottom one hurts my eyes, but the upper one does not. probably something to do with my corrective prescription. Something to do with the width and the heavy central element. I am not saying this is good or bad, and it is probably very individual.

Yeah, I'm too close to the column to get an effective split I feel. Up close the framing parallax error is something I need to pay more attention to, too.

I think your experiments are very powerful. I'd like to see these highway photos done under more engaging lighting.

The image was made with a Fotoman 6x17 camera about seven years ago. I do not remember what lens, etc.
I did not keep the camera for very long, and I have a 6x17 Shen Hao back on its way to me for use on my 4x5".
The back will get here soon and I hope to contribute more to this thread.
Kind regards,

They were done in early morning light with a looming storm (not a lot of time).
I will be shooting some color work in the near future and will share it here.
A review of my experiences with the 6x17 SHPM will be posted on my website after I become comfortable using it.
I have been a commercial photographer and instructor for 30+ years and enjoy sharing information.
If anyone has any tips regarding operation of the SHPM, please do share.

I especially like the "glow" of the light in the lighthouse. Nice work!
I especially like the "glow" of the light in the lighthouse. Nice work!
Thanks. The exposure was a kind of long due to reciprocity. And that made for the lighthouse light only being on for about half of the exposure.

I like it, as well, especially as it's a tricky exposure situation. I've never used Delta 3200.
I like it, as well, especially as it's a tricky exposure situation. I've never used Delta 3200.
Thanks Peter. That's the exposure from the phone app.
You can give Delta 3200 Data Sheet (https://www.ilfordphoto.com/amfile/file/download/file/1913/product/683/?___store=ilford_brochure&___from_store=ilford_brochure) a quick read and learn something about it. The table of development times list exposure indexes from EI 400 to EI 12500 for a selection of developers. The film has really high base + fog density so if you like deep, rich blacks this film is not it. Highlights can sometimes have an interesting glow to them.

These are test shots made after receiving a Shen Hao 6x17 Pano Magazine (SHPM).
Thank you,
Darr

+1, really a great union of subject and aspect ratio.:) Very nice work on your website as well, though I've not made my way through all of your portfolio. One thing I'd be interested in is if you'd weigh in on your workflow at some point--LFF members Peter de Smidt and Rob de Loe have done yeoman's work about DSLR scanning, but if I understand correctly you're the first I've come across who's using a digital MF setup.

Thank you for your kind words. :)
I have an article about how I digitize my film in the works (prepare in my head first).
It will take me a little bit of time to get to it as I am traveling these days, but it is in the works.
Thank you for asking!
I will post a link to it here on LFF when it is up.
Kind regards,

Excellent! In the best of all possible worlds, I'd have either a Pentax 645Z or even D to leverage...if I could start off by deducting the price of an Epson 850 from each, it starts to look possible. (Sometimes I think I would make an excellent politician...:))

Thank you Peter! Since photography is not my main occupation I try to make the most of my photographic excursions. Most of my pics are taken during vacation and on weekends when away from the city. Maybe it doesn't show but the pics I post are grouped together in specific dates. I just try to make the most of each location (which is probably visited in the past and I know more or less where to move).

Used Photopills to map out a sunrise between these two tress that are situated on a nearby ridge. Land is slated for development, so I've been trying for quite a while to get this shot before the bulldozers arrive. Luckily, the developer has given me free access to the property until that time arrives. Still trying to plan a supermoon rise at the same location...hopefully that happens before the bulldozers. Shot with my Shen-Hao 6x17 on Portra 400. Sky was light purple and orange that morning, so I took some liberty with luminosity masks to enhance the colors and sun rays. Still a work in progress.

I agree! Terrific color, good composition......Whenever Tuco posts his GX617 images, I start looking for one for sale... I borrowed one for a day and loved it, but they're still pretty spendy.

Folks, many of the color images here appear to me to be over-saturated. I know from experience--I live in the Southwest United States--that I can't go to those locations at any time and see such vivid color. I suspect the same for some of the images from Greece, but I haven't been there since 1974....
Just sayin'
Photography doesn't have to represent reality.

Computer monitors are terrible for displaying images for me. I have a 10-bit monitor and my copy of the so-called "creative operating system" does not support a 10-bit per channel color path (driver is 8-bit ) so color saturation levels are difficult for me to make look the same on all computer monitors. I hear, finally, I can get 10-bit support if I upgrade. It took how many years? The greens in this picture are really flat on my monitor. Looking at them on my tablet they are much brighter - probably too bright.

Great processing...for HP5+, I don't see any hint of graininess whatsoever. Can I ask your technique?
Great processing...for HP5+, I don't see any hint of graininess whatsoever. Can I ask your technique?
Thanks. I don't do anything special for finer grain. Sometimes it's more noticeable than others. I think negative size and scaling the image down by an order of magnitude from the scanned size is the main factor. When I use Delta 3200, for instance, I see less grain on posted images from a 6x17 negative than a 6x9.

Thanks for responding. When it gets really noticeable, I've been experimenting with luminosity and channel masks and using a very slight blur effect on certain images that lend itself to that (such as your seascape scene) to smooth things out a bit.

Hi!
This time, vertical framing. I'd some issues loading the film. I think that this is the reason of the lack of focus on the bottom of the pic: the film must have been curved. Just a little but enough.

Bandon Beach again. That cloud bank in my previous picture moved onshore making for some slower shutter speeds stopped down. The sand rushing back under the tripod feet can cause camera movement. This is the least noticeable one on the roll.
