Thanks. Yes, the new minimalist design. No electricity or running water. All designed to make it feel like a cabin. :)

Yes, nice Pali. I feel a left to right movement in the picture. You guys call that a "mountain" in the background?
Thank you Jon and Tuco. Sadly, that is indeed a mountain for us and I too don't really get it.

Well done!
Is this done without CF?
Or compensated in PS?
One of these days, maybe many, I'll submit to color processing.
Thank you Randy! These are all without CF shot using Caltar II-N 90mm f6.8 at f22 and f32. I have not adjusted for anything in PS so what you see here is what is on the slide and honestly, I really don't think you need a CF with this setup because the lens seems to have sufficient coverage for 6x17 at f22 or higher.
I would love to see you do some color work as well. I got the JOBO CPP2 a few years back and it has made color work a breeze and now I am even starting to tweak processing for some personal adjustments.
Pali
Nice work holding the shadows (I am sure the drum scan helps!). I like the last one you posted best. Impressive that there isn't any flare from the sun above the frame that was probably within the image circle vertically. That is the one thing I struggle with on my Mercury, which with my ultrawides can catch serious flare from reflections just inside the back of the camera.

Man, those panorama cameras look like fun! I got to shoot with a Fuji version a couple of years ago for a day, but it was just too expensive.
Thank you Bryan! I am sure the drum scanner is helping keep the shadows pure which is a huge plus with drum scanners. What most don't realize is that slide film actually has write a bit of shadow detail but most consumer scanners just can't scan it but it's all there if you look on a lightbox. Drum scanning, particularly the Tango, pulls everything out. As you know, the original camera had flare issues but it's amazing what slight angle changes and blackout paper can do to eliminate them.
Peter, the Fuji and other cameras do get expensive indeed. That was main driving reason for me to create one for myself and this camera has come out really well in the end.
I can't get enough of shooting trees in vertical pano composition. Hope no one minds that this has become a bit of repeat from me :)

Very cool Pali, but hard to view on my 24" landscape screen.
Are you turning your monitor to vertical?
Maybe bring down the pixel count a bit.
Thank you Randy. I did post a big resolution and even for me, its takes a screen scroll to see the full image. I will be more mindful of this in the future and post smaller resolution for vertical panoramas. Part of me really wanted everyone to see small yellow flowers that get lost in the green if I post too small but I think it would still be better to see the entire image and composition.
Here is another image where I tested the helical focus on the 6x17. This was focused at about 5ft at f22.

I love the texture on this, have you printed it?
Last of the color pictures I've had scanned from my trip west. This is just off a road. You can clearly see that my decision not to bring a center filter with the 72mm lens was a mistake, on this slide film it almost looks comically exposed.

Thanks Peter your post from Pali's PK-15 looks good.
Check out the Film's Data Sheet (https://www.digitaltruth.com/products/ilford_tech/delta3200.pdf). It gives development times for a variety of developers and exposure indexes ranging from EI 400 to EI 6400. I shoot it at EI 1600. Some notable points include: I didn't use a box speed developer on the above picture and I rounded the meter reading to a whole stop favoring adding more light for the direction of my roundoff. I hear you really need push Delta 3200 to get that box speed but I dunno. The film has a pretty dense base + fog value so blacks really never get as deep as other films.

2 Images from my Burke and James 5x7 shot with a split darkslide on Fomapan 100 developed in Ilford ID-11. The first is on my way to work in Oxfordshire and the second is of the small machine shop at my work. I'm still working out how to get the best from Fomapan 100, I usually prefer Ilford stocks in sheet sizes but I got 200 sheets of the fomapan for really cheap so I figured it was worth a go!

I shot this recently but wasn't sure if I like this or not. This tree was growing at the edge of swamp and had some sun light hitting directly on it and I thought I would be able to separate it with contrast but the whole scene just seems busy to me. Curious to hear what others think of this one.

Hi Pali,
Thanks for your kind words.
Regarding the tree photo...
I mostly gave up on vertical Pano formats unless my cardboard 1:3 viewer told me that the subject should clearly dominate the negative.
Waterfalls work nicely in pano format, but power lines and thin, wispy things tend to be disappointing unless they dominate most of the negative area.
Anyway, that's why most of my panos are horizontal.
Best regards
Reinhold

I have a bunch of Fujichrome and a inexpensive scanner that works ok. These are spectacular images.

Hard to follow up a bunch of bright colorful images but...well here goes.
I have been meaning to try shooting more pinhole, and also inspired by Alex Gard's recent images, so tried shooting some at a salt marsh in south Mississippi. Was wading in boots to get these.

This is a bit of a personal image, but I thought I'd share. I made this photograph earlier this month in Mississippi of my grandmother in her favorite chair. She has dementia, and has been getting worse over the years. Currently, she hardly recognizes anyone and just kinda sits there, occasionally asking who people are. She sometimes thinks she's in her 20's or 30's and doesn't believe her sons/daughters are hers. When she sees photos of herself she thinks it is her mother. Anyway, it's really tough for my grandfather and now my mom who is helping to take care of her.
I try to get photos of the family when I can but it can be hard. During a respite in the holiday rush I setup my 617 as I noticed the nice light coming in through the front door and lack of distractions or messiness. She just looked puzzled as I setup and just calmly ignored me, until I was about to snap the photo. I'm surprised she didn't ask me what I was doing or who I was this time so I luckily was able to make this portrait of her.

Absolutely beautiful, what a wonderful photo and a slice of precious time. Fortunate, that for now at least, she's able to be home. My 88 year old uncle finally had to go to a skilled level nursing home. He requires help with everything, he's still pretty good mentally, but just a shadow of his former self.
Really a great shot, thanks for sharing your story.

Corran,
I like the first one of the trees!
What I don't understand: why did you focus your 90mm first? With pinhole there is nothing like focus, you could choose any distance setting on your Shen-Hao and it works like a zoom.
I looked at your blog and love all these great wood, tree and water photographs very much.
I love the picture of your grandmother!! Looking at it I really feel like being there, perfect composition and exposure.

Hi Dierk,
I did that just to make sure I had the camera extended at around 90mm (the Nikkor technically has a 97mm FFD but close enough). I wanted to approximate the 90mm viewpoint and I also knew the pinhole was optimized for around that "focal length" so went with it. Thanks!

Your prayers may have been answered. Too late for your grandma (and my mother-in-law), but maybe not for those unaffected so far by Alzheimer's. This looks promising. ...

That Fuji is nice. I had a Fuji GW670. Sold it because I won it cheap on Ebay, it was cumbersome, I didn't have a scanner, and I wasn't developing film. DUMB. I'd LOVE one of those 617's.

Thank you both. Unfortunately, I didn't make note of the aperture and shutter speed. I guess I had better add a notebook to my camera bag. Kinda was in a rush with this one...had to drive across railroad tracks to gain access to a fire road to get near the generators. Freight trains in this stretch of Texas can be close to one mile long, and they sometimes have a habit of stopping for hours at a time and blocking crossings...didn't want to get caught on the wrong side of the tracks. Was able to set up for a few shots and then get moving.

Laminarman the camera is lighter than the size suggests. No meter, no rangefinder. I use at least f/22 to have adequate dof so handheld with 100iso and the center filter (-1 stop) is almost impossible with the exception of midday, very bright conditions. I have an example here:
https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5471/30164050275_39a2c8105b_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/MXuDfk)
taken handheld as I was inside the archaeological site of Delphi and tripod use was not permitted. I believe it was f/16 @1/60, ISO set to 50 (I rate 160 C-41 films to 100 usually) and the pic is a bit soft at 100%.

Thank you Giovanni. Beautiful images by the way. By "center filter" do you mean neutral density? Also, very nice name. We were going to name our son Giovanni, but chose Angelo. Our youngest daughter, however, is Giovanna Grazia. We have a bit of Italian in us.
.... We have a bit of Italian in us.
Me too, my father was Italian.
... By "center filter" do you mean neutral density? ...
Yes but only in the center or the filter. These lenses have large light falloff.

Never knew that about the light falloff, but have heard about center filters on other threads. Thank you.
Never knew that about the light falloff, but have heard about center filters on other threads. Thank you.
Light intensity decreases as you move away from the optical center line toward any corner of the image.
This is true for any lens of any focal length or coverage angle.
With normal or long lenses, this is not a problem.
But it can be significant with wide-angle lenses.
Center filters correct this difference in intensity, making an even exposure across the image.

Heavy?
Compared to???
I shot with Pentaz 67 and Fuji
Compared to a pentx MX, HEAVY
Compared to a 4x5 about the same as say a Graphic
Almost always handheld, sunny 16.
200 ektachrome was just right, but mostly 400 B&W with a yellow filter
I printed 8 or 10 x40 and dodged to compensate for falloff.
But the lens is slow, so I'm speaking SUNNY 16, and action

Well here's another comparison about weight. When I shoot 6x17 I use my 5x7 Canham MQC camera with the Canham motorized roll film back. This is an all-metal setup, so very rigid but I have to haul the same stuff as when I shoot 5x7 and I have to use a tripod. I usually shoot both 5x7 and 6x17 in the same outings.
So anything less than that should sound pretty compact, comparatively speaking...

Gas station and cabins built in 1927. In 1935, the owner had the bright idea of covering the station with petrified wood, and added rock facing to the cabins. Bonnie and Clyde rented one of the cabins several weeks prior to their eventual demise. Located in Decatur, TX. This was basically a scouting trip since I just learned about the place. May need to go back and re-shoot with Portra...had a nice golden glow at sunrise.
