Greetings from Fort Worth, TX. Although I've been taking pictures from the age of 6 (Polaroid) I've only recently started in Large Format. In the years past I've shot lots of Medium format, starting with an Old Mamiya 220, then a RB67, (I wish I still had), I sold it to get a Mamiya 645 (still have and use) and now a Wista 4X5 w/ Schneider Symmar-S 5.6/180 lens. I've been using Kodak readyload, E100 ES and like it fine, but I'm open to suggestions.

In Fort Worth, there are not a lot of scenic areas, so I have to travel to get the shots that I like. I mostly travel to Colorado, Oklahoma and Arkansas. I'm planning a trip to the Big Bend area in the spring of 2011.

Here is a picture of my Wista and my wife in the background picking up TRASH, from the stream. It’s a shame that you have to pickup after people, even in the middle of now where.

Welcome! But from the photo, it looks like you violated the first rule of a happy marriage -- Never buy a camera bigger than your wife.

But I guess it is all a matter of perspective...;)

Again, welcome from the upper left coast!

Funny thing, there is a small group of hobbyists here in the Dallas area who drive to Ft.Worth because there are many interesting scenes to photograph in that part of the world.

They also visit the Amon Carter Museum whenever a new photo exhibit appears.

There is a large group of LF enthusiasts who live in the Ft.Worth area.

Stay in touch. Look for announcements on this forum, and join in on the fun.

Welcome aboard!

Yea, I've shot a few nice cityscapes, but nothing worth enlarging (for me at least). ANd I do agree we do have some wonderful museums and a great Zoo. Sometimes attend the Fort Worth Camera club, but find that they can kindof be snoby. You know, my digital camera is just a Nikon D200, not good enough to be a "real" camera :) But I bet if I attend more regulary they warm up to me. I too can be snoby at times.

I did meet some really good guys in Arkansas last year that came from Dallas, they called them selves "Frick and Frack" They both shot with digital and really drulled when I broke out the Wista. And they gave me directions to the waterfall in the above picture.

Glad you wife seems to like these outings!

It was not alway that way. After she took a few nice picture that now hang in our house did she start to like photography.

The Ft.Worth camera club is mostly involved in "pixelography" (photographing with digital cameras), and is very equipment oriented (my camera is better than yours).

We have come across their members during our shoots in FW.

However, most LF photogs are devoted to using film and processing it themselves.

Take a look at JB and Susan Harlin's website. They are located in your area.

Hi, Ataim:

Welcome to the group.

Have you seen any of Peter Feresten's work? Peter is a bit of a Fort Worth institution.

Peter did a lot of things with all formats, including an excellent series of views in Fort Worth that he shot with a 5x7.

Yep, my little D200 is not nearly good enough to be in cool kids crowd. Also too many of the photographs are full of HDR, although they are nice, most over overdone and bloated. I use my D200 as a light meter, and it does a pretty good job at that:p

They are located close, but most, of not all of there photographs (at least on the web site), are from outside the area.

Just two weeks ago there was an "outing" in downtown. I missed that one, but will be at the next.

Ataim,

Welcome aboard.
Bob is working on something closeby for Saturday. Once I know the details I will PM you. There will be at least 4 of us at present count.
I am planning on only bringing an 8x10 this time around!

Man I would love to show up, but I have to get my continuing education units in before the end of the year. Saturday I'll be in Frisco, taking 8 hours. :( But as least I'll have them over with.

BUT PLEASE keep me informed of future outings!

Ataim:

I too find I have to remove trash frequently before snapping the shutter on a composition. And often I'm looking for a long stick or something to pull one of those plastic grocery bags out of the trees. They sure are ugly. The way it is about everywhere nowadays I guess.

And probably everyone believes their own (close to home) areas are less photogenic than farther away. I get the same feeling often. So I force myself to look around closely near home for good photo opportunities.

They do exist but sometimes are harder to find due to familiarity.

Cheers and best of luck with the larger format.
