Does anyone know anything about the lens offered in this auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180588151021)?

And in a related question:

Should the Dagor be pronounced day-gore or dah-gore or something else?

Thanks,
Dan

It is german finally, so DUHGOR(e) should do...

Zsa Zsa Gabor, Goerz Dagor. Nobody says it like that. I'm right, they're wrong. :D:D

VM calls this a photomEton and supports what the lister says - which is very convincing

Could it have been used in early photobooths? (in the 1920s, there were photometon booths): http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/14/arts/14expl.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1. I have a B&L lens which is otherwise identical to the one listed - was B&L still buying rights from Zeiss in the 1920s?

EDIT - I just looked in the VM and yes, according to them it was used in the booths of the same name.

I have looked up the auction listing at Brekers. It seems dubious. They say this is from the mid 20's (just before the Zeiss-Ikon merger and "Goerz's" corporate exit) although the serial number given to the Photometon is obviously later and from well into the Zeiss period. Perhaps this is a prototype - but it is from the Zeiss period - perhaps CZJ were trying to find another use for the lens developed for the photo booth trade.

I noticed that the photometon business started in the mid/late 20's but they were probably first able to place a development order with Zeiss (aka Goerz) when they had carved out their niche.
