View Full Version : Cable Release Adapter for Wollensak Auto Shutter?

One of my LF lenses is in a Wollensak Auto shutter. The overall size of the shutter is roughly the same as a Betax #3. The cable release port is internally threaded, but the threads are straight, very fine, and my tapered cable release will not fit. I did some checking with some miscellaneous machine screws, and a 8-32 screw is about the right outside diameter, but the threads are too coarse. The threads in the port could be 8-40 or even finer. Does anyone know what the correct size is? Does anyone make such an adapter? If not, does anyone make a standard tapered cable release port attached to a bracket, or that could be mounted on a bracket?

It may take some looking, but there have been cable releases made for a wide variety of differing shutter fittings including the one you need. If no one here has one (I may, but am away from home) try the oldest camera store you can find.

just in case
and i have no way of knowing if mine will fit for you or if youd want a short one

i have a made in switzerland wollensak optical 6in straight threaded release
like a spiral metal with no locking device
seems like a pretty flexible and well made one even if perhaps basic

I was just looking at it night before last in cleaning out a junk box wondering if Id ever have a use for it in the next 30 years

A 6-inch basic release would work OK. Do you have calipers or a micrometer to measure the outside diameter of the threaded end? If you do, could you let me know what it is?

Thanks.

One straight thread seen on some older cable releases and shutters has an American Standard Thread 5-44 NF2 thread.

i found out i do have a shutter that only works with this type of release
an old 3 speed self-cocking Wollensak Deltax as found on the 3A postcard format folding cameras and such
did not come with that camera, though

I'll attach some photos

the plunger travel is about 15mm which is longer than a Prontor and Linhof I have
much thicker "pin"

as for the thread I believe its american and like 40 or euro and like .5 or .6

I'd think wollensak would have had all their stuff standardized

it's in very good shape

you gotta let me know tonight/tomorrow morning w address or it may take me a week or longer to send it

Sun of Sand sent me the cable release pictured above, and it fits the Auto shutter perfectly. Many Thanks! Hope to get images of something better than the backyard with this lens before the winter weather sets in for good.
