... I joined this forum a couple of days ago, being a newbie in large format photography but having a little experience in photography (135 and 120). After moving from Germany, where I was born and grew up, to Sapporo for working as a (mad) scientist at Hokkaido university, I moved to Chofu (Tokyo-area, 20 min by train from Shinjuku) this year in May.

Tokyo has many camera-shops and many crazy (as I am) photographer, who are still in film and classic full mechanical cameras. One of my friends, a professional photographer here, spotted a nice Linhof Technika IV since he knew that I always wanted to try "四の五", shi-no-go, (four-by-five in Japanese). I got the camera last Sunday, bought a lens (Fujinon-W 180/5.6), a Polaroid545 holder, a cheap 5x loupe, and some Fujifilm 100ACROS Quickloads. I already had a Gitzo GT2941 w/ GT1178M head (way to weak for the Linhof, glad about every tip for a decent head !) and gave it a try last Monday evening:

1st attempt of using 4x5:

2 minutes, f/32.4 (Seconic 508), Rodinal 1:50 for 15 minutes (20C, first minute constant agitation and subsequent 3 inversions every minute) Since I don`t have a 4x5 daylight tank yet, I used my MaSuKo 1201 (single 120 roll film tank, 700ml) and placed the sheet between the empty stainless steel reel and tank.

I am looking forward meeting many nice LF photographer here and maybe also in real life :)

Cheers,

Gabor

..nice to hear Acros Quickloads are still readily available in Japan. Would you mind getting me some?:p

Oh, and welcome. The can is a great start, I like surfaces that reflect the shooter.

If you're in Kobe any time, let me know, and we could go and photograph something!

Thanks all !! :)

The Fuji 100ACROS Quickloads is ~8000JPY (20sheets box), last Sunday they had still plenty of them.

I might have to visit Kobe soon for a business trip !
