I've been using CS2 and OS 10.4 and and an Epson R1800 printer for several years. I use the workflow of Convert-to-Profile for the paper type, and turn off printer color management in the Epson driver, and in the CMM. Works great, and it is or was the preferred workflow of several service bureaus I've worked with in the past.

Now, I'm trying to set up/troubleshoot an Epson R2880 Printer on a friend's new Mac with Snow Leopard and Photoshop CS5. The output is dark and seems double color-managed. Her (prior) printing preference is to Assign Profile via PS.

Looks like there may not be an option for turning off color management outside of PS, that the choices are to limited to either having the Epson printer driver color manage or else the Apple CMM... is that true/ and or still the case? (Perhaps I'm remembering this is why everyone was so miffed at Snow Leopard when it was launched, that it forced a new workflow?)
