CB South, no coverage. I did not try in the north area.

I think you can rent a sat phone pretty cheaply with no minutes, then you only pay if you need to use it in a emergency.

Kermit, the South Buttes are not THAT remote that I would worry about cell phone coverage. I have visited that area numerous times and I have always met other hikers/photographers.
