I was wondering whether anyone has attended in the past, or is planning to attend this year, PDN PhotoPlus Expo in NY Oct 28-30. Since attendance is free (if you sign up early), it seemed like a risk-free proposition. Anything worthwhile here? How about the seminars (which are not free)?

I have been to a few, and am planning on going to this one. Mostly digital the last time I went, but it was a chance to see some things up close. It is geared for the pro/wedding business in my opinion. Last time there were very few "free" goodies being passed out, but if you have a free pass then you are only giving up your time. It took me about 2+ hours to see what I was interested in and B&H had a shuttle bus to take you back to their store.

Ive been to everyone since the late 90’s and i will keep going (cant ruin my record :D ).
Ever year it gets a little smaller and more digital. Its a little depressing but still worth going.
Its always nice to see people you used to work with and put faces to your vendors.

Inkjet papers are nice to see but their attendance was minimal for the last 2 years. Hopefully it picks up again.
Freestyle usually has a big booth and its usually packed, very good news.
Kodak usually has a good booth and the free film line is around the corner, bodes well for us!
They usually have speakers like John Sexton. He was really great to meet a few years ago and so was Scott DiSabato (Kodak film marketing manager).
The Lee filter booth is nice to see. They show some of their filter systems.
The B&H booth is packed but you have to take the shuttle to buy.
The MAC Group (Profoto, Sekonic, PocketWizard…) booths are fun if they show up this year.
Lots of bags and cases from different vendors and tons and tons and tons of albums and printers.
Some are really expensive, some are just cool and some are cool and expensive. An album for everyone!

I only attended seminars the first time i went to the expo. They were ok, not bad but not great either.
Once they stopped offering darkroom, LF and film related courses, i stopped reading the courses listing.
They primarily center around digital, photoshop, marketing and lighting. Im sure if you go they will be good.

Try to sneak in a bottle of water or 2 and some snacks. The concession stands in the Javits center are really expensive.
There is a deli a few blocks east on the south side of 34th thats good. Also a pizza place a few doors east of the deli.

Thank you very much! It looks like it's worth stopping by one of the days. It sounds more fun than browsing at B&H.

Well, I guess two rolls of TX400 from Kodak paid for the subway token. Canham is there, if you want to see an ULF up-close. Bring some dead AA batteries and exchange them for new AA lithiums at the Energizer booth.

And, if you want to save some money on those delicious NYC Sabrett hot dogs, walk a few blocks away from the Javitz Center... they're cheaper.

Used to go all the time in the 80s and a few times during the 90s. Last time I went was 2001... weird trip on the Ferry not seeing the buildings I used to work in. However, that trip I did get a beautiful 30x40" Jack Dykinga print off one of HP's big printers for free. Had to wait about two hours for mine to work it's way through the queue so no one would take it. Kept it in a box for 4 years, then we moved to AZ. Had a special nook built for it in our home. Looks real nice and not out of place as it woudl have in NJ.

Nikon also provided a model...is this typical? I had a small camera with me so I took a snapshot.
