My visiting son and I just returned from camping near Eureka on the Animas River yesterday. We crossed from Animas Forks to Lake City over Engineer Pass and returned via Cinnamon Pass. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the Aspens were awesome. They are about 95% turned with traces of green in amidst them.

Going north from Durango to Silverton on US 550, the colors begin to turn around Molas Pass and are prime all the way to Silverton. However, in Durango and Pagosa Springs (there may be some change in the Weminuche, about 26 miles to the north) the Aspens have not begun to turn although the cottonwoods are beginning to show a tinge of color.

From prior experience from past years I would presume that by now the Aspens around Creede are also in full color.

I hope this information is useful to photographers of the leaves.

You can check on the RMNP forum on NPN. They have a fall colors posting and some have posted updates on the Ouray color.
