Hi,

how difficult ist it to make a contact print from a 8x10 colornegative?

What do one need, especially what light source and
what color paper?

And what are the differences (pro&con) from an enlargement made from
a 4x5 color neg to a contact print of an 8x10 color neg.

Use a color enlarger for the light source so that you can color balance.

Can a smaller enlarger for 35mm format be used for that ?

Absolutely! It will give you even light and you still can adjust the color balance.

Itīs as easy as enlarging, even easier, because you donīt have to focus. Take the same paper and your color enlarger.

The 8x10 contact print theoretically has got better picture qualities: better sharpness, less grain, more saturated colours. But if you have a reasonable good 4x5 inch neg enlarged to 8x10 you will probably see no big differences. Nevertheless, if you can disregard the costs and the bigger efforts of 8x10 due to the larger cam, higher weight..., then I would vote for the 8x10 contact print.

Best,
Andreas

Hi,

sounds not bad. A little dark cabinet would be necessary I think?
I'm an absolute darkroom newbie:)

What about the developing of the negative, would it be better to let
the lab people do this? There's a very good lab only 15 min with
bicycle from my flat www.hsldigital.de

And the paper developing?
