About to take the plunge on an 8x10 camera and want a WIDE lens. Found a reasonably priced 150/9 Computar. From the little info I've found, it covers 8x10.
Would appreciate input from anyone with experience with this lens, regarding coverage, sharpness and suitable shutters. Thanks.

The 150/9 Computar, or at least the one I owned, did not cover 8x10. It vignetted about 1/4" from the corners. It should fit directly into a no. 1 copal or compur shutter.

If it only cuts off 1/4" at the corners thats not too bad for an inexpensive superwide. I frequently use a 125mm that cuts off about the same. Cropping one-quarter of an inch from an 8x10 negative still leaves an image with a huge angle of view.

Icy racer, 1/4 inch at corners is not too bad, but for me the coverage would be too limiting for the occasional required shifts or front swings and tilts.

There are other alternatives which would be more appropriate.

Wolly made a 159mm f12.5 as well as a slightly faster version, which will completely cover 8x10. Schneider's 165mm f6.8 Angulon should also cover, or at least the earlier uncoated versions did. A 6 1/2" WA Dagor will cover, but are relatively expensive. A more expensive and significantly larger single-coated 165mm f8 Super Angulon will cover with lots of movement, and if you are patient I bet you can get a decent one for under $500. An 8x10 B&J or Zeiss Protar V should have tons of movement, and comes in about 180mm or so. I have seen these in barrel for less than $200.
