I will be spending 8-10 days in/near Boone, NC soon. I am planning to take the Technika V with 125mm & 250mm lenses. I would dearly love to find a rocky, babbling, cascading, full on waterfall even creek/brook/river. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't think you'll have a problem. Worst case, ask when you're there or use google maps, enable photos, and look around. I've found some great falls in upstate NY by doing that...

Linville Falls is quite spectacular, about 40 min drive if I recall.

Cheap digital shot I took. See those little specks at the top? Those are people.

Wayne,

Are you flying into Asheville? If so look me up. We'll take the 20 x 24 out for a spin. I'll be doing giant plates this Sunday if you will be here by then. Even if that doesn't work out and you are flying into Asheville, check out the Brevard area as you can hardly throw a rock in any direction without hitting a spectacular waterfall.

If you have any need of painting supplies, Boon is the headquarters of Cheap Joes.

Kevin Adams wrote the book, literally, on NC waterfalls (http://www.amazon.com/North-Carolina-Waterfalls-Hiking-Photography/dp/0895873206). My experience is that he's usually spot on. Book contains maps, descriptions, a rating system, time of day advice, time of year advice, etc. Highly recommended.

Wayne, right up the road (421) from Boone towards Bristol about 5 miles is a nice waterfall on the left. I can't remember the exact directions, it's been almost 20 years, but it's right outside town, close to the Valle Cruces turnoff to the left.

Thanks Monty. Can I have a raincheck? We are driving from Texas-probably through Tennessee. Babysitting 4 grandkids. If I have a morning for myself I'll be lucky. The next time that we are there and not "employed full time", I would love to see the 20x24 in action.

Thanks for all help folks. Keep the ideas flowing.
