Thought some of you might be interested in these early colour - LF - photographs. Some of them are simply splendid ...

``These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color. ...''

These were published a few years back as the book 'Bound for Glory'. Said to be out of print, but I saw copies last fall in the Library of Congress gift shop. Oddly, I recently had a copy out from the local public library... marvelous work, a real national treasure.

Wow, I really enjoyed looking at those photos. Thank you for sharing.

In particular:
The welder portrait in front of the train was gripping.
The candid capture of the women workers at their lunch table made me feel like I was seeing something I wasn't supposed to. Perfect honest daily life.
The last one with the worker at the carbon black plant really speaks to me. I love it.

Thanks again for sharing.

Kind regards,

-JB

Found a copy of "Bound for Glory" (intro by Paul Hendrickson). Fascinating images from the FSA files.
