I just returned from Prague (my 25'th trip..), and saw down there first of all a beautiful exhibition with images of my favourite photographer, Josef Sudek.

I also ran acros a new book, called "Mionsi park", whic is a protected forrest in the Czech republic.

I know some images by Sudek, taken therem but this book is all from there...

The "school" of Sudek is as far from the "Adams" school as you can think, and I love it to bits!!

Amazon has this book - but states it is currently unavailable, alas.

Keep an eye out - it will come back.

Buy it! it is a beautiful journey in a forrest no many people are allowed to see...

I agree, Sudek's work is utterly beautiful.

What do you mean by "no many people are allowed to see"? The nature park is open each summer for 3 1/2 months to whoever wants to visit it. The seasonal regulation is in force to regulate the human impact on the original forest there.

ok - my mistake. I was told by the owner of the FOMa store that it is not open to the public, but if you're right, you're right...

Which, by the way is good nes - I'd love to visit that forrest...

Next time go for it. Open between 1.6. - 15.9, the morning hours are the best ones in forests.

By the way, as my friend - a forest lover like me - told me, if you want to google about it try the native spelling - Beskydy.

I am very jealous. I want to go to Praque badly, it is the place of my favourite writer as well as Sudek. Sadly, it will be some time before I make it there. Do you have some photographs or snapshots?

Fun to know that someone has gotten to go there. I would love to go and have that experience but I will have to stick to my imagination only. Congratulations!!

It's available on Amazon.de (http://www.amazon.de/Josef-Sudek-Ancient-Forest-Beskids/dp/8072153447/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1). Emil, is it posible to see what's inside? At least couple photos somewhere on line. I wasn't able to find anything beside cover photo, and as much as I like Sudek, I would not like to buy a pig in a poke.

Cheeers,
Marko

Hi marko - of course. I have to go to work now, but I'll scan a couple of images and post them later...

(you will not be buying a pig in a poke (we calle a cat in a bag)...)

Hi Emil,

I'll be very pleased, thank you. I'm in a process of deciding what to do with my landscape photography and I'm looking for resources on forest photography that is away from f64 style, so this might be just what I'm looking for.

BDW we are also call it "cat in a bag", but sometimes I try to outsmart myself with fancy phrases from dictonary .

Cheers,
Marko

Cheers for those, Emil!

You are right this will not be cat in a bag. I think photos are tipical for Sudek's slightly towards surrealizm turned style. Quiet and beautiful.

Would you be prepared to chat a bit about photography over PM?

Cheers,
Marko

His use of tree stumps is interesting. Theese are not as special to me as some of his others that hint at loss of a different sort.
