Ok, I checked the archives and Carl Weese said the 355 Schneider G Claron will w ork, other sources on that same thread said a Nikon 450 would cover it. How abou t the Rodenstock Apo ronar, Armin was asking about? has anybody used this lens w ith a 12x20? I am looking to upgrade my lens and would like the opinion of the f orum. Thanks all! I know the Apo Ronar has an image circle diameter of 323 at f/22 but does the im age circle will be big enough at f/45? by my calculations the diagonal of a 12 x 20 is 496 mm, so I need a whole lot more than the lens seems to be able to provi de.

Jorge, The diagonal for 12x20 is much larger than you state. It's 593mm to just cover. As for Ronars, my 480mm Ronar just barely covers 8x20. It's a touch soft at the corners even at f90. So a 480 Ronar would not fully cover 12x20.

I'll be watching the this thread because I'm interested to hear (from personal experience) what the limits of coverage are for the Fuji 450C f12.5, in a copal 1 (!). I think it might cover ULF like the Nikon 450M is reputed to.

ah yes Linas, forgot to carry the one...lol..you are correct it is 593 mm, so I guess it is even worse for the apo ronar...pity I really wanted that lens....I guess it will have to be the Nikon, unless someone has a better idea. I thought about the Fujinons, but way too much money....for an extra $1000 I can buy both the Nikon and the Apo ronar....

Jorge,

I don't know if the Fuji 450C f12.5 is suitable for 12x20, but it costs less than the Nikon 450M. At least that's what I saw at www.badgergraphic.com a while back. This together with the incredibly small size has me very curious about the Fuji 450C.

they are kind of big, but I have a 24 inch and a 32 inch apo ronar that I bet would cover.

Linas, I guess you were looking at the Fujinon 450 compact, that one is $30 cheaper than the Nikkor, but the one I was looking was the CMW 450, which does cover 12x20, but is worth $2225! way out of my league........

Jorge: Do a search on Ebay. I saw a 19 inch Dagor being auctioned that by my old literature will cover 17 x 21 at f16 and 22x26! at f45. Best, Tom Keenan

Thanks Tom, I guess anything over 16.5 in on the red dot dagors will cover but I want something with a shutter, etc. I know, I know I can send it to Mr. Grimes and have him fit the barrel lens on a shutter, but I just want something hassle free for now.

the fuji 600 covers but the 450 12.5 fuji does not cover. IF you could find a 300SW 9.0 fuji that would cover!!! It has to be the Super Wide 300 not just the W. The front element is about 135mm. The 600 Fuji is really sharp!!!

Don't give up on the Gold Dot Dagors. Most of them are in shutters that I have seem. The Red Dot Artars were designed as process lenses and many of them especially the longer ones ane in barrel.

You may want to check with Midwest Photo Exchange. They have several Fuji lenses listed, both new and used. Prices are well below Badgers prices, and service is excellent. Mpex.com The phone number is shown on the website. Ask for Jim. He is very knowledgable.

I bought my Fuji 11.5 600C for about $1000 on E-bay. It sold new for $1750 at one point, but the Yen is quite weak against the $ now, and I have seen prices at least $200-300 lower than this recently (Midwest photo?) I bring this up because this is just about the only modern lens which will unambiguously cover 12X20 at infinity without stopping WAAAAAY down. Plus, it's quite small and light, and a very nice focal length to have in this format. I use it as my normal lens for 90% of my shots, mostly full-length portraits, and also have a 19 in Dagor, 360 Nikkor W and Super Symmmar 210 XL, all of which will more (the Dagor) or less (the Nikon) cover. The Fuji is a great lens, and if $ is a concern, it might be worth watching E-Bay and the yen rates.

Good luck,

Nathan
