Spent a couple of days working like mad with this new 2 me lens.

http://tonopahpictures.0catch.com/MsclPetzvals/6inch2_4Gunlach/624_1.jpg

It's unusual because it's lightning fast at f2.4. When I got it, I opened up the box parked at the curb at the post office, and pulled out a lens that was full of sea water. It's like it was rescued from a flooded basement or something. GROSS!

So I took it home and dismantled it and gave it a heck of a bath in some dishwashing detergent, re-assembled, and other than a bunch of scuffs on the crown of the front lens which sticks out past the barrel housing, it cleaned up brilliantly.

Hope you'll enjoy a page of pictures (http://tonopahpictures.0catch.com/MsclPetzvals/6inch2_4Gunlach/6inch2_4GundlachPetz.html) made with it.

It's a 2fer. On friday I did a bunch of 4X5 images on regular FP4 film. Then laying in bed last evening, I surmised that the front group might make a brilliant soft focus meniscus, so I did a bunch of things up in the studio on 8X10 paper negs.

Have fun. As usual, I present the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Hi Dave. You can see, nothing much is changed up at this end of the state. Cheers, jg

I like the Lily grass a lot
But what about a picture of the lens full of water?- I never want to see that in person

That one tops my weird list. It couldn't have been in there too long as nothing was rusty or damaged. Box wasn't wet. 2nd lens in the box wasn't wet. Very weird indeed.

Lovely stuff, Jim! It's always good to see these old lenses come out of retirement to sing again. And your own style harmonizes with them so well! :)

Water-filled? Sounds like Sutton's Patent Panoramic Water Lens, 1859. ;)

Jim - beautiful work... I actually like that it doesn't go totally crazy swirl. Again, that pet cemetery is pretty cool subject.

Buyers beware. This is actually a scheme where I've bought this lens for next to nothing and plan on massive profit taking. Mr. Collum is actually aiding me in this desperately wicked plot.
