I purchased a used HP Combi Plan tank a few months ago and recently noticed that it has a rather large vertical crack in middle of one of the long sides.

Has anyone successfully repaired one of these tanks and is willing to share the method and adhesive?

Or, does anyone know of a glue that could be used to repair and reseal the tank?

Thank you,
Bruce Douglas

You will not sucessfully repair the tank. You can buy a replacement tank only from us or a dealer in your area like Gasser, K&S, Cameras West, etc.

I have used Ethyl-Metyl-Ketone for repairing a broken film retainer clip.

It must only be used outdoors or in a highly ventilated environment.

The fumes are highly inflamable and poisonous, so wear a mask.

It is also used for gluing ABS plastic.

Hi Bob
I have a Combiplan tank unfortunately the film retaining clip has broken, is it possible for you to supply a spare, I have tried in the UK without success.

Thanks.

Hi
Thanks guys, I have priced a replacement from Fotoimpex in Germany, 4 euros for the clip, 15 euros for the shipping:eek: I will give it some thought for a while.

Thanks again

I think that the 15 euros is Fotoimpex's standard intra-eu starting rate, so if you
order any thing else you pay the same rate.

In the 18 years I have used the Combiplan tank I have replaced the clip one time
and the funnel one time.

Does it leak?

If it doesn't leak, you might just put a piece of black electrical tape over it and continue to use it.

If it leaks, you can try cementing some opaque material over the crack with epoxy.

Thank you for all the input. The tank does leak. I will give a couple of things a try. If I have any success, I will post the solution. I think Bob is probably correct that it cannot be repaired, but, it's worth a try!

Bruce,

Use Gorrilla Glue, or the Elmer's equivalent. They are epoxy based adhesives.

Make sure the glue runs down between the two surfaces to be joined, then hold them together with tape, and allow the adhesive to dry overnight.

When dry, cover the repair with electrician's tape and check for leaks.

The Combi-plan tanks are made of injection molded polystyrene. Very thin. Not much surface area for the adhesive to grab.

It's worth a try.

I'd probably try something like IPS Weld-On 4 or IPS Weld-On 2354, or take it over to TAP (http://www.tapplastics.com/) and ask what they recommend.
